The licence, and what it does not cover
A TV Licence is required to watch or record live television as it is broadcast, on any channel and any device, and to use BBC iPlayer at all. What surprises people is how little it buys beyond the BBC. It does not include the sport, the films or the drama box sets that most households think of as the expensive part. Those are separate subscriptions, and they are the ones that keep rising.
Freeview and Freesat stop earlier than you think
